This Saturday - National Clam Chowder Day
February 23, 2012
There comes a time every year, when the nation celebrates one of the most heart-warming holidays around - National Clam Chowder Day!
This year, it falls on Saturday, February 25th, and as avid clam chowder fans and creators, we thought it was necessary to give you an inside look at Skipjack’s signature Boston Clam Chowder recipe (and a deal too!).
There’s actually a bit of a history to what can be called clam chowder and what can’t, similar to how champagne is only champagne if it’s made from the grapes in Champagne, France. To be a true clam chowder it must contain: chopped New England hard shell clams, potatoes, onions, bacon and either milk or cream.
At Skipjack’s, we use all of these ingredients as our chowder base, but to make it extra special we also add thyme, nutmeg, white pepper and pepper sauce for a little freshness and kick. It’s super creamy with huge chunks of clams and potatoes and the added spice warms up your tongue.
Another insider’s fact - in 26 years, we’ve never changed our original recipe and are happy to announce that this Saturday you can come in and enjoy a FREE cup of clam chowder*, complete with oyster crackers and some freshly cracked pepper.

What do you like to put on top of your chowder?
