History

SKIPJACK’S was named after a type of tuna, indigenous to the Pacific, which is known for tenacity and strength.  Jeff Senior chose the name to reflect his vision of a restaurant known for its aggressive pursuits of the highest quality product, while keeping it affordable. From the beginning, SKIPJACK’S was devoted to introducing Bostonians to a wide variety of the freshest seafood from around the world and offering it at the best prices.

SKIPJACK’S was the first Boston area restaurant to offer orange roughy, Mahi Mahi and is the originator of one of today’s most popular dishes, blackened tuna sashimi.  The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, and in 1988 Jeff Senior opened a second SKIPJACK’S in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay.

In the summer of 1999, Jeff Senior turned his attention to Newton and opened another Skipjack’s.  The Newton SKIPJACK’S evokes the feel of an elegant 1930’s cruise ship with arches and curvy spaces reminiscent of waves.  Two glassed-in private dining addition areas are available including an intimate space for 14 and a larger room for 45.

SKIPJACK’S menu is complemented by an award winning wine list including many wines by the glass.  Emphasizing American vintages, SKIPJACK’S frequently updates its wine lists and is able to provide many types of wine that are unavailable elsewhere in the city.  In fact, SKIPJACK’S has been bestowed the prestigious “Award of Excellence” for more than 25 years in a row by Wine Spectator Magazine.

In November of 2002 SKIPJACK’S opened their third location in Natick, Massachusetts.  The design of this new location celebrates the voyage taken to bring the best and freshest products to Skipjack’s patrons. Since private dining was such a success to Boston and Newton; two beautiful spaces were designed in the Natick location.  Always an industry leader, in 2002, SKIPJACK’S added a state of the art Sushi Bar in Boston, Newton and Natick locations making them the only seafood restaurant to have a Master Sushi Chef performing his craft for all to see and enjoy.

SKIPJACK’S is proud to announce a fourth location at Patriot Place in Foxborough.  The opening of this property was September 2008.  With views of Gillette Stadium, this location is surrounded by excitement.
