 We love seafood, but there’s one thing we love even more - our staff. We have some of the best chefs, cooks, servers, and managers in Boston and so we decided that we should share them with you!

Each month we’re choosing an Employee of the Month, someone who always excels and has that special something that deserves recognition. Once they’re chosen, we’ll be sharing a little more about them right here on Skipjack’s Dish.

 You’ll learn not only how long they’ve worked at Skipjack’s and some of their favorite foods, but also some great stories about them told from the owners themselves!

We chose Mariemise as our employee of the month because of her enthusiasm and passion for baking. She recently won our Cupcake Wars competition to find the perfect new cupcake for our Valentine's Day Menu. Her Peanut Butter, Banana & Chocolate Cupcake crushed the competition!

Marimise is originally from Hinche town in Haiti. She has two daughters, one son, and a "handsome" husband! We're so happy to have her aboard. Here's more about her:

Q&A with Mariemise

How long have you worked at Skipjack's?
 Since July 2010.

What inspired your cupcake recipe?

As I like making pastry, one day I tried this cupcake at home for my kids. As soon as we tasted the peanut butter, banana and chocolate all combined, we fell in love! So, when I was asked to develop a special dessert, I knew this cupcake would be the best! Try it out on Valentine's Day - you're sure to fall in love like we did!

What's your favorite menu item? Past or present.
 My favorite dish on the menu would have to be fish & salad. Simple and delicious.

What is your favorite part of working at Skipjack's?
 My favorite part of working at Skipjack's the salad station where I put together all of the salads for our guests. I feel so comfortable there!

What's your favorite thing to cook at home?
 At home I like to make really fresh food. One of our family favorites is green plantain with fish. Another go-to meal is rice and beans.

Favorite childhood dish?
 When I was a child I liked to eat pasta. Who doesn't?

When not at Skipjack’s what is your favorite thing to do?
 When I'm not at Skipjack's, I'm at church or taking care of my family.

Tell us one thing about yourself that not too many people know?
 Not too many people know that I like to sew and design curtains and that I'm a dressmaker.
